Session length

1 / 20

Approximately how long should each answer last?

Less than one minute

Between 1 and 2 minutes

More than 5 minutes

Around 2-3 minutes

Timing your answer is the key. About two to three minutes works best for most questions because it gives you enough time to set up the situation, describe what you did, and share the outcome with concrete details. Short responses under a minute tend to lack depth and omit important context, while answers stretching beyond five minutes can lose the interviewer’s attention and become rambling. Aiming for roughly two to three minutes lets you present a clear, structured narrative—often using a quick Situation/Task, Action, Result flow—without rushing or overdoing it. If the question is simpler, you can land toward the shorter end; for more complex stories, you can stretch toward the upper end while staying concise and focused. Always adjust if the interviewer cues you to be more concise or to elaborate.
